Myoporum insulare

Myoporum insulare

Myoporum insulare, or Boobialla, is a hardy, fast-growing shrub or small tree native to coastal regions of southern Australia. Growing up to 5 meters tall, it features dense, glossy green foliage and small, star-shaped white flowers with purple spots, blooming mainly in spring and summer. These are followed by purple, berry-like fruits that attract birds and other wildlife.

Boobialla thrives in well-drained soils and tolerates full sun, salt spray, wind, and drought, making it ideal for coastal stabilization, windbreaks, and native hedging. Its dense growth habit helps prevent erosion, while its fruits provide a food source for native fauna. It is also low-maintenance and adaptable to a range of conditions, including sandy and saline soils.

With its attractive foliage, ecological benefits, and resilience, Myoporum insulare is a versatile choice for native gardens, coastal revegetation projects, and sustainable landscaping designs.
