Eucalyptus rubida
Eucalyptus rubida
Eucalyptus rubida, or Candlebark, is a striking, medium to tall tree native to southeastern Australia, commonly found in cool temperate forests and woodlands. Growing up to 40 meters tall, it is renowned for its smooth, pale bark, which peels in ribbons to reveal shades of cream, pink, and grey, resembling the glow of a candle. Its lance-shaped green leaves and clusters of white flowers, blooming from late winter to spring, attract pollinators such as bees and birds.
Candlebark thrives in well-drained soils and tolerates frost and cold climates, making it an excellent choice for higher altitude and cooler regions. It provides essential habitat and food for native wildlife, while its deep root system helps stabilize soil and support water retention.
With its striking bark, adaptability, and ecological contributions, Eucalyptus rubida is a valuable species for revegetation projects, windbreaks, and native landscaping, bringing both beauty and biodiversity to the landscape.
