Dianella caerulea 'Clarity Blue'
Dianella 'Clarity Blue' is a robust, clump-forming perennial from the Asphodelaceae family, renowned for its striking blue foliage. This cultivar is a hybrid between Dianella caerulea 'Cassa Blue' and Dianella prunina 'Utopia', combining the best traits of both parents.
Reaching approximately 55 cm in height and 45 cm in width, 'Clarity Blue' maintains a neat, clumping habit. In summer, it produces showy flower stems adorned with blue blooms, adding seasonal interest to gardens.
This Dianella thrives in full sun to part shade and is adaptable to a range of soil types, preferring well-drained to clay loam soils. It tolerates drought and frost, making it suitable for various climates across Australia, including Victoria.
'Clarity Blue' is ideal for use as an accent plant or in group plantings for colour contrast. Its clean blue foliage and resilience make it a valuable addition to both residential and commercial landscapes.
For optimal growth, water as required for 8–13 weeks until established, then avoid overwatering. Plant in a well-mulched garden, ensuring the crown or base of the plant is not below soil level. Use slow-release fertilizer after the first two months, then only if required in spring. Trim older leaves annually to maintain appearance.
