Cyperus gunnii
Cyperus gunnii
Cyperus gunnii, or Gunn's Flat-sedge, is a compact, tufted perennial sedge native to Tasmania and southeastern Australia, often found in wetlands, damp grasslands, and along watercourses. Growing up to 50 cm tall, it features fine green leaves and slender stems topped with small, brownish flower clusters, adding a soft, natural element to wetland habitats.
This sedge thrives in moist to waterlogged soils and tolerates full sun to partial shade. It is an excellent choice for wetland restoration, riparian planting, and erosion control. Its dense root system stabilizes soil and reduces sedimentation, while its foliage provides habitat for insects and other small fauna.
With its delicate form, ecological importance, and adaptability, Cyperus gunnii is a valuable addition to wetland rehabilitation, biodiversity-focused landscapes, and water-sensitive garden designs.
