Acacia melanoxylon
Acacia melanoxylon
Acacia melanoxylon, commonly known as Blackwood, is a highly versatile and resilient species native to Australia. This tree is particularly notable for its adaptability to a diverse range of habitats, including Lowland Forest, Riparian Forest, Grassland, Riparian Scrub, Herb Rich Woodland, Coastal Scrub, Heathland, Dry Forest, and Wet Forest communities. In the lush Otway Ranges, Acacia melanoxylon thrives within the Cool Temperate Rainforest communities, and on the expansive Volcanic Plains, it is a significant component of the Plains Grassy Woodland.
The tree's ability to grow in a wide range of soil types and conditions, coupled with its tolerance for frost and its preference for full to partial sun exposure, makes it an excellent choice for reforestation projects and ornamental use. It is best not to use this plant for streetscape projects.
